Bio

Daniel Kohan, the creative force behind Sensical Design, has worked for more than 25 years as a graphic designer, art director and editor. Before founding the company in 2003, he was Associate Art Director for Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine. During Dan’s tenure at Kiplinger, the magazine’s look evolved through three major redesigns and won many awards for graphic design, including an Ozzy Award for Best Redesign in 2000.

Before going to Kiplinger, Dan managed an award-winning redesign of Travel and Leisure under Design Director Lloyd Ziff and worked at several other magazines in New York, including Esquire Gentleman, American Photo, and Executive Female.

Dan is a graduate of Yale University and studied graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York. He was Managing Editor of Television Broadcast magazine and contributed articles to several publications in the television trade. He is also former Vice President of the DC chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design, and was a charter member of AIGA’s national task force on sustainable design. He has served as a judge for the Washington Book Publishers awards, the American Jewish Press Association awards, and the American Society of Business Publication Editors awards. Dan’s work has been featured in Graphic Design USA magazine. He is also an avid ukulele player.

Dan worked closely with us to understand our preferences (and dislikes), the nature of our business and the image we want our corporate image to convey. He took that detailed information and turned it into an overall brand image that has elements of tradition and yet looks fresh and unique to our firm. Our clients and colleagues have been very admiring, and we couldn’t be happier.
